Value of Coin Collection??

Hi All,
My Dad passed away about 20 years ago and was a coin collector. I have the
collection all these years and was going to sell it but when I went to the
local coin shop he did not even take time to look. Just offered $3000. for
all 10 books plus a lot of loose coins.
My question is how do I find the fair value of this collection? I know
there is a book with all the values but I don't know how to rate them and I
see looking up every coin will take forever.
Any advise is appreciated.
