NANC is another grading company, not on the list in the above link.
I purchased a silver 1973-S Eisenhower dollar in a NANC slab, graded
MS69. I paid $9.55 for it on eBay and that included shipping. At
about the same time, I purchased a PCGS 1973-S Eisenhower dollar on
eBay that was graded MS68. I paid, with shipping included, $119.
The NANC 69 is so far everyone's ( among my nonnumismatic friends and
employees) choice when presented both side by side.
One of the problems I've always seen with the numeric grading system is that it seems to emphasize marks and wear. Luster and "eye appeal" don't factor in as much (for obvious reasons).
Example: I've been working on a set of BU wheats for awhile now and my criteria is "what does it look like with the naked eye from a foot or two away". I've seen some *ugly* PCGS MS66RD Lincolns that I wouldn't want in this set.
