I was in the PO today sending some coins out to be slabbed, and
checked on the status of these boxes (there are two sizes of
Priority
Mail boxes that mail for $4.05). The PO no longer makes them
available in the lobby, but will deliver them to your home on
request.
They are free. The rate for both sizes is still $4.05 until May.

$4.05 and up depending on weight and distance. The only flat rate
priority
box available is the $8.10 one.

I don't know why you'd say that. The "video box" sizes (there are
two) mail for the Priority Mail flat rate of $4.05 regardless of
distance (in the US) for one pound or less. They are boxes. They
are available. I mail them weekly.

I mail them weekly as well and pay 4.05, 4.55, 5.15, etc depending on
weight
and distance. Are you saying the post office has been ripping me off?

I'm saying that you don't read what's written. What do you think "one
pound or less" means?

What do you think "depending on weight and distance" means? lol

It was *you* that disagreed that priority mail cost varies on distance and
weight. You took contention with my statement. The fact that you are
always mailing a low weight is immaterial to your contention.

"$4.05 and up depending on weight and distance."

"I don't know why you'd say that"

Or maybe you were contending the "only flat rate" part right after that?
If
so, that is likely the source of confusion.

I'm beginning to understand the frustration other posters have with
you.

Because I can't read minds?

You made a statement - "The only flat rate priority box
available is the $8.10 one." - that is flat-out incorrect and
misleading. Of course I "took contention" (although normal English
speakers would say "took exception") with your statement.

OK so now you have made it clear where the contention was. I just pointed
out in my previous post that I was not sure which statement you were
contending. You did not make it clear which statement you were in
contention with. I can only respond to what you write. I can not respond
to what you think you wrote.

My contention is that there are two sizes of Priority Mail flat rate
boxes that ship for $4.05 regardless of distance (in the US) with
contents of one pound or less.

"One pound or less" is not a flat rate. If it is over a pound then it costs
more, right? The $8.10 box is flat rate regardless of weight *and*
distance. The other sizes are not flat rate regardless of weight. That is
all I have ever claimed. I never refuted your claim. I agree, just so we
are clear, that if under a pound then distance is not a factor in cost.
*You* are the one who refuted a claim, which still stands correct, and you
want to somehow take me to task for not being able to read?

I have never been confused about this.

You most certainly are. What does flat rate mean? It means the cost does
not vary. When the fees vary by weight then, by nature, that is not a flat
rate. I agree that if under a pound then it is a flat rate only with regard
to distance. But not flat rate with regard to weight. Surely you are not
confused still?

* if under a pound
