A little while ago there was a thread here on Thalers, which reminded me of
this vid showing the minting process of same:
http://www.mendosus.com/vids/thalers.mpeg
(OBLIGATORY CAUTION : 3.4Mb file)
I *think* I got this clip from a link posted here in RCC, but I can't for
the life of me remember where from. It is at least a couple of years old.
Anyone know the source, so I can attribute it?
And further:
1) Immediately after the pressing, the coins appear to be held over a hot
element(?) for a few seconds. This seems to be an annealing process,
which is kind of counterintuitive to me. Precipitation hardening, maybe?
Anyone know what that process in the vid is?
2) Ain't the squishing of the blank just *gorgeous*?! (I can sit and
watch that for *ages*!)
3) OTOH, is there anyone here who doesn't flinch and mumble "Oh no!" when
the finished coins drop from a height onto the pile? (Title for Video:
"How Bagmarks Are Made")
Anyways - if anyone can point me to the source of the file, I'd be
grateful.
