My point is simply that I don't like Islam or any of its institutions,
being used as an insult. Likie when someone says Jerry Fallwell is on
an anti-porn Jihad, using an Islamic institution as an insult.
Fair enough. We disagree on the definition of an insult. Saying
someone
prays five times a day is not, to me, an insult. Sayinng daily does of
Rush Limbaugh have turned Dave "Dittohead" Hinz' brain to tapioca is
an insult.
But my point is that I'm here to read about coins (and occasionlally
to post about them), and politics are really out of place in a
hobby-related newsgroup, just like I wouldn't go to the political
newsgroups and as if anyone wanted to buy my such and such coin, etc.
"It's based on democracy" -- Iraqis had to go to polling stations and
vote to
get their food rations.
Yeah, well if we had forced more peope to vote here, Gore would be
president now. So maybe mandatory voting might be a good thing after
all.
Good point. Can you imagine the fulmination from Dave "Dittohead" Hinz
if the US had had a fair election in 2000? There would be no
occupation
of a hostile Muslim country in the Middle East, and Osama bin Laden,
the
man who ordered destruction of 9/11, would have been brought to
justice,
because Gore would not have been stupid enough to redeploy US troops
just when they had bin Laden cornered in Tora Bora.
In fact, we probably would have had defenses to, and the capture and
conviction of the perps in, the second terrorist attack that occureed
under
Bush, the Anthrax killings that shut down the government.
Dave "Dittohead" Hinz would still be whining because Bill Gates did not
get a yearly tax cut and the budget was balanced instead of tripling
the
deficit. Rush would keep him fired up, just like he ran around with
his
hair on fire during the eight years of peace and prosperity that
preceded
Bush.>
"It's an Islamic Republic" -- the Shi'ites in
Iraq are
now in charge and politically closer to their coreligionists in Iran
than they
are to their other countrymen.
But the point is that it's based on what the majority wanted.
Bush likes to say that democracies never start wars. Now we have
democracies in Iran, Palestine, and Lebanon. Why is he unhappy?
Then you would oppose the occupation of Iraq, which is a total
distraction
from capturing and punishing the perpetrators of 9/11? Bin Laden has
been alive longer than Tojo or Hitler survived after Pearl Harbor --
still
plotting, still propagandizing, still fomenting future attacks.
Yes, that does piss me off, but I'm saying that something good did
come out of it: Saddam (a traitor to islam) is gone and the new
government, has the potential to be better than what was there before.
No way the people would have supported the killing of 50,000 Iraquis,
the killing of 2500 American heroes, and an indefinite American hostile
occupation of an Islamic country if they had been told the truth. But
Bush, Rush, and Dittohead Dave kept up the propaganda and got us
into a fine mess.
Regards,
Tom
