IMO, the best way to encourage serious development of alternative fuels is to
keep using the world's oil until it becomes obvious to all that it is *really*
running dry. Only then will we get off our butts and put our scientific minds
to work on practical applications of the alternatives we have just been diddling
with for the past couple decades. Meanwhile, let's use that oil until it's
gone, taxes be damned, and let some of those pompous oil-rich countries get a
glimpse of that light at the end of the tunnel.
