my bad then - i should have noticed that gear was sought in the $200
range... and i also was not aware that coolpixes were that cheap.
otoh, i can guarantee that you would get lousy pics with the microscope
and ring light setup. the microscope is good for one and only one
thing: magnification. a macro lens will give you all the magnification
you need for photography while still being much more versatile and far
superior optically. a ring light is also a crappy choice (used to have
a samigon halo myself) because when it's close enough to do the job the
details are washed out leaving no shadows. the results were awful. this
is something i tried to compensate using a number of remedies none of
which were ultimately satisfactory.
a $1,000 can buy you all the gear you need for pro level pics. it's the
learning curve in getting it all to work right that's the killer. and
that's to say nothing of digital post-processing!
