Yes that's the sound we hear when the round is over.
It's also the sound a $5 Gold Eagle makes when dropped and it rolls down 4
steps before landing in the mud.....then the dog picks it up and swallows it
and....well you know. ;o)
Ouch!
No really, the first round is over. Now I said in the original post that I
would read the entries and pick the best 3 in my opinion. However, I decided
that I didn't want to be involved in choosing. So.....I asked relatives,
friends (yeah both of them), neighbors and co-workers (ya gotta put a hyphen
in there or it looks like cow orkers..???) to read and choose their favorite
3. So now it is up to you. I am adding to this post the 4 entries that made
the cut. Yeah I know, your thinking 4? He said 3! Hey I have found it
doesn't matter how many times you tell em, or how hard you slap em around,
they still vote for the same ones. Some people just don't get it!
I know, I ramblin'. Well it's 2:30 in the morning, I've watched a marathon
of Cold Case Files, Forensic Files & Cops, drank Gatorade all night and
chain smoked....I'm Wired!!!
Here is how it works. I have numbered each essay ( which in Spanish means
Dude..I think) and have left off the authors name. No lobbying for votes
guys, that's a breach of the contract you signed earlier.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE takes a few minutes and read each one, then email me
directly (no posting) your choice. And I will post when the cows come home,
which I've heard are due in about a week "The Winner".
Here they are, in random order: " Why some people just don't get it."
ONE
There are many experiences that happen to those who tread the paths of this
life. Some of those occurrences are pleasant, some are not. Some things are
longed for and anticipated, while many others are not. From sea to shining
sea, there is that constant tension between the good and the bad, the
attractive and the ugly, the bitter and the sweet.
The behavior of men can often be predicted. Certain patterns of influence
are frequently learned as a child and then permeate and guide that life all
the way to that time when the tottering frame is exhausted, grows weak, then
weaker... and then topples over into the grave.
We sometimes stand in awe of the way in which some of our kind conduct
themselves while on this journey. We can be very harsh in our judgment
(silent though it may be) of those for whom we hold a large measure of
distrust and suspicion. Conversely, there is within each of us the capacity
to lavish forgiveness again and again when one who loves us wounds us with
the awful hurt of betrayal.
Strange creatures we are when we blindly run roughshod over those principles
that can bring us such pleasure and harmony, rashly exchanging them for mean
and idiotic deportment. This causes many to loathe and detest those whom
they should be loving, but the sad fact remains -- some people just don't
get it. "Why is that?", you ask. It is with much sorrow that I report that
it is because they just don't want it . . .
TWO
Simply put, some people think they don't have to accept any
responsibility for their actions. Everything that happens to them is
someone else's fault, or they think that everyone else is picking on
them or has singled them out for persecution. Others feel the world
owes them. The world owes them nothing. Decent people work hard to
support their families, pay their bills and earn enough to purchase and
enjoy their possessions. Others feel they don't have to do anything
and believe that they're entitled to anything others have. Until the
courts wake up and start holding people accountable for their actions,
sadly, this trend will continue.
THREE
-most people don't get it because they aren't taught to look. they are told
what to do but not why.
i'm an oddball, a weirdo, i look behind the curtain, under the hood, up the
skirt of anything i can't
figure out. it's not enough that the sun rises and the sky is blue; i have
to know why. i'm not a whole lot smarter, just a
lot more curious. most people look into the face of existence and blink,
they don't care, can't see.
the norms flush the toilets, write the policies and get married because
there's nothing else to do.
they never see the gears, understand the rainbow, appreciate how the baby
REALLY happened.
most people have no clues, no reason. they don't get it because they
can't....their world would not be safe.
FOUR
Some people just don't get it because they are stupid.
Others because they don't care to get it.
And some don't get it simply because they don't stop to think long enough to
realize they aren't getting it.
Most people who don't get it simply are not trying to get it for one reason
or another. The reasons are many.
Some are not trying to get it because they are young, and it they think it
is "cool" not to get it. These may grow out of it, and eventually realize
that "getting it" is better than not getting it, and that there is nothing
"cool" about not getting it.
Others are not trying to get it because somehow they have gone through life
without getting it, (maybe for the above reason) and it has just never
occurred to them to try to get it, and finally it becomes too late for them.
In the end, all the reasons for not getting it boil down to one thing:
They haven't got the self-awareness to realize they aren't getting it, or
that they need it, and one will not try to get what one does not realize one
needs.
HEY, for those of you still with me, let me tell you of an adventure I had
yesterday. I have lived in this house 21 years and the electric bill has
never been over $100. Last month it was $83. This month it's $275. I'm like,
what's up with that? It's not any hotter this summer than others. Yeah the
kids leave every light on in the house, but Dang!!! Last month we changed
from cable tv to dish satellite. Yesterday I went up in the attic to run a
phone line and noticed an air duct's insulation torn up and the metal tube
separated and DISH CABLE all around it. The installation guy ripped it up. I
have been cooling the attic for a month. Can I catch a break please?
