Why a long shot? This is the kind of thing we're good at.

The COPAC entry is:

Main Author: Klossowski de Rola, Stanislas
Title Details: The golden game
Publisher: Thames and Hudson, c1988
Physical desc.: 320p
ISBN/ISSN: 0500233551
Subject: Alchemy
(http://copac.ac.uk/wzgw?id=3158573&f=u&esn=F&rsn=1&rn=16)

No translator is given, so we can assume it is not a translation.

To confirm that, a search on Karlsruhe
(http://www.ubka.uni-karlsruhe.de/hylib/en/kvk.html) shows that his
works in other languages appear generally to be translated from
English.

In particluar, the French edition of The golden Game is catalogued with
the following comment:

"Le texte français de cette édition a été spécialement établi par
l'auteur d'après une trad. de Vincent Bardet et Anne de Gandillac du
texte de l'édition en langue anglaise."

That is: "The French text of this edition has been especially prepared
by the author, following a translation by Vincent Bardet and Anne de
Vincent Bardet of the English-language edition."

In other words, it was translated into French from English, and the
author edited the French translation before publishing the French
edition.

Interestingly, it was published in French in the same year as it
appeared in English.

Finally, none of the first edition copies on ABE (UK or US editions)
mention anything about it being a translation from any other language
(http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchEntry).

Haven't got time to do any more searching right now, but that seems
fairly conclusive.
