I don't think anyone has questioned the concept. But I am entertained by
the idea of being able to assign an specific number to it. I'm quite
certain 80% is possible. In some conversations. Other times it is likely
much lower, or even higher. I'm surprised that a study attempted to
quantify it (and, no, I don't blame you for that fact, or for passing it
on), but I would be interested to see their method. Assigning a percentage
to it seems to feel like they are saying that one or the other can stand on
its own, when really it seems more like the two aspects simply create
context for each other; the words coming out of your mouth might have many
possible interpretations, and the look on your face indicates which one is
intended. Or your tone of voice implies sarchasm, which could indicate a
meaning opposite from the literal interpretation of the words you spoke.
The two are somewhat inextricable.

And don't even get me started on how this all applies to autistic kids.
