I probably told you about my father in law's new CTX.
Well 3 months in he can't keep the battery charged. If he doesn't
drive it every day the battery dies. The GM answer, Keep it on a
charger if you plan on parking it more than 2 days! (they gave him a
charger)
I did some looking on the net and dead batteries in caddys goes on and
on with all sorts of stories on some of the message boards about what
the sleeping load is and how getting more than a week out of it is
asking a lot. Evidently there is a whole lot of electronics in that
car that never turns off.

WTF??? Who wants a car you can't park for a few weeks and expect to
start?
To make matters worse, the "hear you coming" feature in the fob turns
every light on in the car when you walk up to it, so a marginal
battery that may have had a chance if all you did was start the car,
is not going to get it done.

Historically, the best reason to join the Auto Club was owning a Cadillac.

If he could, my Grandfather (RIP) would say differently. He owned a Caddy as
his weekend ride, from the 60's until he died in 1980. The last one he
bought was one of those 4-6-8 engines, and luckily he died before he
realized what a piece of crap that technology was. My grandmother was stuck
with that POS, but opted not to drive anymore once her husband died.

Not sure how they disposed of it, but other than that, Cadillac was a good
name in our family. Heck, my mom still drives one.

Everyone makes a lemon now and then.

If the chat groups are any indication this dead battery thing has been
plaguing these cars since 2006. The dealer didn't blink when they gave
him a charger and told him to keep it plugged in.

They did pick the wrong guy to screw with. My FIL is retired GM and he
still knew some people to call. The dealer has the car back right now
with some incentive to come up with a better solution. This may end up
being a software patch. That was how they addressed some of the
earlier problems. I bet they find a way to shut down some of those
systems.
I would really want a "vacation" switch if I owned one that shut down
everything but the ROM keep alives on the computers and the door
locks. I might even give those up.
I would certainly want something to disable that "turn on every light
in the house" feature when you get close to the car in a storage
situation.

The Toyota folks can plug in a device that enables the changing ot
twenty or thirty different options on the car, how the door locks
operate, how lights stay on, ... There's a bunch of 'em. But, it does
require the service guy get in the car and spend fifteen to twenty
minutes going through the options and resetting the computer.
