JimH,

It is possible that Chuck finally took the sugguestion you must have
made to him over a 100 times. Here are a few examples of the comments
you made to Chuck:

"Never thought I would see the day you lower yourself to such childish
wording. I guess I was wrong Chuck. I really think you should take a
break from this group based on your health. I mean that in all sincerity
as you seem to be losing it more and more every day.

In the end, this NG is not what is important, nor is anyone's opinion on
boats or politics. Your health (mental and physical) and family come
above all. You are letting this NG get to you and you need to step away
for a bit Chuck. "

"I think it is time for Chuck to step away from this NG and take a break
from it like he did a year or so ago. "

'Looks like it is about time for you to pick up you bat and ball and run
home to mommy.......you know, take a break from the NG like you did a
year or so ago when you started showing the same freaking signs of
losing control of yourself.
Give it a try Chucky....you are about ready to lose it completely. "

JimH, if Chuck actually had left rec.boats, it looks to me that after 5
years of making similar comments as the ones above, you finally achieved
your objective.

"Take a vacation..........you need one."

I am moving on, but not due to anything any one individual has done.
That's unfair to JimH. I don't favor "swan song" posts, but nobody
except me should be held responsible for my decision.  In the event
that one or two people will even notice that I am gone and wonder why,
here is an accurate analogy:

Imagine that you belonged to a club. When you joined, it was because
the members had a common interest and you looked forward to discussing
and sharing that common interest with the other members.

Imagine that over time the meetings became less and less about the
common interest that was supposed to hold the club together, and more
frequently consisted of fighting, bickering, name-calling, etc.
Imagine that several members would deiberately introduce topics for
the sole  purpose of creating an uproar. Imagine that when you
protested, the majority of the members said "F*** you! If you don't
want to participate in the fights, then don't! Fighting is now more
important to us than the common purpose for which we originally
organized the group."

Then imagine that other people who had originally joined the group to
pursue the common interest just quietly faded away, and that more and
more meetings consisted solely of personal fights and middle-school
caliber nonsense. Pretty soon, it would become apparent that if you
chose not to participate in the fighting and arguing there would be
very little else to do. That's where I'm at. When it got so bad that
it was actually embarrassing to be associated with this group it was
time to go. Getting sucked into the vortex once in a while was
additionally alarming.

I don't give up on things very often, but with the volatile mix of
egotists that gather here- some permanently and some at least
seasonally intent upon disrupting rather than contributing, you've got
no hope of ever getting this mess turned back again into a useful
boating forum.

I realize full well that the prevailing sentiment of the majority is,
"The hell with you, don;t let the door hit you in the arse if you
don't like the way we play....." The prevailing majority is right. If
acrimony and chaos are the primary attractions for those still
bothering to gather here, it's not my place to try to change it or
interfere with the 7th grade "fun". But neither does anyone not
primarily here to exchange nasty insults, dredge up old "lies", or
repost the latest crap from the DNC emails or a right wing talk show
have much reason to hang around.  I am being very careful of said
door, thanks for the concern regarding the safe passage of my arse.

I've dropped out before. Once for about a year or so, I think. I may
lurk in once in a while to see what's happening and may even return if
by some miracle the focus ever shifts away from dueling egos and back
to boating. (I will say that the 2-3 times I lurked in week or so
since I last posted here only served to confirm my decision to move
along). We can bet that won't be before the next election. :-)

Best of luck. I'm easy to find if any of you are ever in the Pacific
North Wet. I'm pleased to be able to say that there isn't a single
person in this group that I wouldn't be happy to spend an afternoon
with.....it's the combination of personalities here that's so
dysfunctional

Bon Voyage, Chuckster. I can't disagree with you: rec.boats no longer is
a newsgroup where most of the posters own boats and want to discuss
them. It's deteriorated to the point where some of the posters who claim
to have a boat won't even let it be known what boat it is.

You are the perfect example Harry.

There are far better internet places nowadays to discuss boats, fishing,
and suchlike. There are only about a handful of posters left here whose
scribblings I enjoy.- Hide quoted text -

Why don't YOU leave then, Harry?
