Yes, same problem. I get a dose of a congestive flu bug about once aI don't know where you live, but around here, you can get a flu shot. I

do. No flu.

But, I'm sure you know more than the doctor that wrote the article.
Probably invite Dr. Koop on your lobster boat to talk about just such
things...

Well, I wasn't going to point that out. Glad you did. "Loogy" knows no
more about medicine than he does about concrete mixes for sidewalks. I
think he's institutionalized somewhere in Georgia and is allowed to use
a computer for a while each day because he's convinced his keepers he is
taking correspondence courses at a local juco.- Hide quoted text -

Harry, tell me what YOU know about medicine.
Do you, for instance, realize that by getting flu shots, you are
setting yourself up for super strains that aren't treatable? Ask your
Dr. wife!
From the CDC:
Who should not get a flu shot
People who have chronic (long-term) health problems. Examples include
heart or lung problems, kidney problems, diabetes, or blood disorders.
People who have weakened immune systems and cannot fight infections
very well. This includes people with cancer or HIV/AIDS, or people
taking steroid medicine long-term.
Those who are often around people with severely weakened immune
systems.
Any child under 18 years of age who takes aspirin regularly.
Pregnant women.
People with a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
What are the risks of getting the influenza vaccine?
After receiving a flu shot: You may have redness, swelling, or
soreness where the shot was given. This may last for up to two days.
You may also have fever or body aches for a day or two.
After receiving the intranasal vaccine: Most problems that may happen
after receiving the intranasal vaccine are mild. You may have a runny
or stuffy nose, coughing, a headache or body aches, or a sore throat.
You may have a fever, abdominal (belly) pain, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Risks with both the flu shot and the intranasal vaccine: Any medicine
may cause serious problems. However, the risk of serious problems due
to the influenza vaccine is very small. Talk to your caregiver if you
have questions or concerns.
What should I do if I have a serious reaction to the influenza
vaccine?
If you have any of the following symptoms, call your caregiver:
High fever or shaking chills.
Trouble thinking clearly, or changes in your behavior.
Weakness, dizziness, or a fast heart beat.
Hives, skin rash, or itching.
If you have any of the following symptoms seek immediate medical
care:
Hoarseness, wheezing, trouble breathing, or trouble swallowing.
Swelling in your mouth, throat, or tongue.
Tightness in your chest.
Feeling like you are going to pass out.

Flu vaccines 'not worth the trouble'
By David Rose
FLU vaccines may be far less effective at combating seasonal outbreaks
than previously thought, researchers say, adding that they may not be
worth the cost and effort required to produce them.
After years of being "in the Biz", I have had this opinion for a long
time... I NEVER get the damned thing! (And I NEVER (almost never) get
the Flu... of course, working in pharmacy and being exposed to
EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME may have something to do with it... my immune
system is prolly fairly strong.)
Quote:
NI_MPU('middle');According to a review published today, there is
little clinical evidence that the vaccines reduce deaths
significantly, hospital stays and time off work among those most at
risk from seasonal flu, including the over-65s and those with chronic
heart and lung conditions.
Public policy worldwide recommends the use of inactivated influenza
vaccines -- those that contain dead viruses and are given with a needle
in the arm -- to prevent outbreaks. More than 15 million doses of
vaccine have been ordered for use this winter in Britain.
But according to Tom Jefferson, a vaccines expert, vaccines given to
children under 2 have the same effect as if they were given a dummy
drug. He is calling for an urgent re-evaluation of vaccination
campaigns. Writing in the British Medical Journal, he says that
because influenza viruses mutate and vary from year to year, it is
difficult for scientists to study the precise effects of vaccines and
that most existing studies are of poor quality. Responding to Dr
Jefferson's comments, David Salisbury, director of immunisation at the
Department of Health, said: "In older people, protection against
infection may be less, but there is good evidence showing that
immunisation reduces broncho- pneumonia, hospital admissions and
mortality."
All in all, I'd like you to ask your Dr. wife, perhaps when you are
out on your lobster boat this weekend, what she thinks of the facts
given.
