Based on internet research (and past performance of Sony
electronic
products we own) I was considering purchasing a 46" Sony LCD HDTV.
This afternoon I headed down to my local Best Buy just to see how
the Sony compared in picture quality to other brands.....I was
sadly
disappointed as even the LG, Samsung, Sanyo and Insignia sets had
more color and sharper image quality. I suspect they did not
calibrate the Sony sets properly for some reason...........but I
may
be wrong so I will be heading to a family owned local appliance
store tomorrow to get another view.
What is your experience with your large screen, flat panel LCD
HDTV
set and what brand is it?
Is there a particular 46" LCD HDTV that rises above the others
regarding picture and quality"
Can't help with the larger LCD TV's. The largest LCD we have is 33"TIA
(I
think) and it's a Toshiba. We have several other smaller LCDs ...
Polaroid, Sonys and a couple of Magnavox's. Picture quality is about
the same IMO, however I have to be honest, the Sonys have the worst
"off axis" view factor, both from the sides and if the TV happens to
be
elevated. The picture is more washed out. It seems to me that Sony is
not as quality conscience as they used to be, not only in the video
equipment but in audio as well.
The larger sets are all plasma and, again IMO, plasma is superior to
LCD, especially in the larger monitors. We have one "LS" brand
enhanced definition (near HD, but not quite). The other three are
true HD Samsungs ..... two 43" and one 50". I have no complaints at
all with Samsung. Very nice picture and color in HD.
EisbochI looked at dozens of HDTV's and researched even more. I ended up
buying two Samsung DLP's. One 50" and one 61". I've been a Sony fan
for years but the picture was better than anything else in that size -
money no factor. I have no need for a true flat screen to hang on the
wall. Both are less than 18" deep and fit well on their stands. In
both cases, hanging a TV on the wall would put them too high for
normal
viewing anyway.
DLP TV's were never a consideration of mine based on my research.
Thanks anyway.
Have you seen one?
Yes.
Those XRD's had a lousy picture at a higher price. I couldn't find a
plasma
or LCD that came close to the DLP.
Not to my eyes and research...........but whatever makes you happy.- Hide
