Unless you really have need for that much storage you will get better
performance with 4 or 5 smaller drives running RAID-5. You really only
need enough stripes to rebuild one drive so the more you have the less
the overhead is. You do have to be dilligent about replacing the bad
drive as soon as possible because it can't rescue 2.
The most interesting development I have seen in "backups" and storage is
the upcoming Microsoft Home Server. It's in beta now, supposedly set for
release in the fourth quarter. If you have a couple of home computers,
it'll do a lot for you.
With Acronis True Image you can backup across a home network. I use it
between the home laptop and desktop. Works fine.
