So how many phones in your house have access to this service John? Did
you
keep your present hard wired phones service? What sort of hardware did
you
have to purchase to make your phones compatible with this service?

I just signed up for a plan on 2 of our lines (one is business) with our
phone company for unlimited local and long distance (US) calling, VM,
caller
ID and some other services. $49/month total/line. All 11 phones in the
house have access to this service.

Haven't got the stuff to hook them up yet. No, I'll cancel Verizon
($85/month) just as soon as I'm comfortable with this (after the number
has
transferred, which takes about a month). A device comes which connects
between the modem and the cable. To this is connected a telephone base
station. This was included in the price. We don't have 11 telephones,
but
I
can plug the hardware into the house phone lines and use it for any and
all
lines in the house.

Yes, I have the Verizon 'special' plan, which recently went to $51.95 a
month. It sounded like a great deal, but that price doesn't include any
of
the taxes or other 'incidentals' that add another $30+ to the bill
(although it *did* sound like a super deal when I got it). Also, to get
a
special rate (12cents/minute) to the Netherlands, I have to pay an extra
$3.95/month to Verizon. With Sunrocket, the cost to the Netherlands is 3
cents/minute *without* any special rate charges.

The only disadvantage I can see is if the electricity goes out. For that
I
have a cell phone. Also, since I've lived in this house we haven't had
outage for longer than 30 minutes (knock on wood).

So you only get one *device* in order for this to work? And it won't work
if there is a power outage?

No thanks. I don't mind spending the extra bucks for reliable service on
all the phones in our house.

Only one device is needed. Do you think there should be several, or what?

If I understood you correctly, you said that the *device* served only one
phone. In our case, we would then need 11 *devices*.

How many telephone boxes are used at your home? The lines come in to one
box, that's it.

We have a phone in my office, in the kitchen, in the family room, in my
wifes office, in the seating area of our basement area, in the kitchen area
of our basement area, in my workroom and in all 4 bedrooms. Each room has
it's own phone box connection.

All the current phones in the house will be connected to the same lines
they're using now.

If you live in a place where you have frequent, lengthy outages, and you
can't depend on your cell phone, then I wouldn't switch either in your
shoes.

One could just use the most basic regular phone service, connect to the
voip, and still save a bunch of bucks.

I am glad this works for you. It does not seem to work in my case though.

Have a spectacular evening John. ;-)
