I have a 1941 edition of A Field Guide to Western Birds. It was my
Grandmother's and then I think that my mom used it. Has some great
field notes that they wrote.

I have the Burgess book. I got it for Christmas in 1947 I think. It
was my very first bird book. My second was Peterson which I bought
about 1965 when I was a stay at home mother with 3 small children.
Most of my birding then was done from my kitchen window. These books
really changed my life--enriched and broadened it. My Burgess is in
really good shape complete with dust jacket but the Peterson is
falling apart and taped with duct tape and full of check marks. The
only thing I regret is that I didn't put in dates or places in that
copy or that I never got the chance to get it autographed.

I look for bird books at flea markets etc. I bought a new Kaufman
last week.

I hope one of my children will give me the new Peterson's for
Christmas. I have already started hinting.
