Steve, it sounds like you have a perfect set-up there. You're getting a
little bit of everything of every shape and size from big predators right
down to little hummers. Good job!

I sat in front of my house this afternoon for about two hours trying to
capture an image of a Lazuli Bunting.
In that time, I observed some animal behavior that just fascinates me.
A large raptor with a 2-3 foot wingspan was circling in a thermal high
overhead. Two robins, blackbirds, and meadow larks came into my tree and
began making their alarm call. All left except the robin who made about
twenty calls. During the twenty minutes or so the raptor was circling,
various other birds came and left the tree, each of them sounding the alarm.
Then there were the hummingbirds. There's a scruffy tree that has two
spindly limbs that stick out of the top. Hummingbirds like to perch on
there, and from there, can watch the four yard feeders and swoop down to run
off intruders.
Buntings, siskins, finches alternated at the feeders, each one bullying the
other group out, then getting bullied out.
Did spot what I thought was an oriole or tanager, but didn't get a real good
look. My MIL said it was feeding at her hummingbird feeder, and I have
friends in Cal that get them on their HB feeders. Beautiful yellow
underneath, but didn't see head or a lot of other marks due to branches, and
his short time in the tree.
You can see a lot by observing.
Steve
