The one you spotted was most likely struck by a vehicle..

Here is a "possum" pretending not to be seen in my neigbhours yard,
they tend to do that..This one stayed motionless for almost 10
minutes???

They are famous for "playing dead" (but not for staggering around, I think).
I've never seen one just remain motionless for ten minutes -- gave you a
great photo opportunity.
