Any ideas on how the rapidly increasing deer population will be controlled in
heavily populated areas like Bergen County in the north east corner of NJ?
These towns have not allowed hunting in many years. Shooting a gun off in
town is a crime.

Deer contraception is very expensive and of unproven effectiveness.
Relocation merely foists the problem on someone else, and many deer die
of stress during capture. Hunting is currently the only practical
solution. Plus, volunteer hunters bear all the cost.

Ask your local conservation agent to help set up a closely-managed bow
hunt. To be successful, all of the neighborhood should be involved from
the planning stages, and all residents' concerns addressed; town
officials must support the effort, and some ordinances may need
adjustment.

Urban deer hunts won't attract glory seekers, only serious hunters who
want meat for their families, or to donate to food charities. Interview
prospective hunters to weed out any slobs and make sure they know about
boundaries, hours, and other special considerations. If legal, make sure
hunters target adult females. Bowhunting is safe when done by
experienced hunters from tree stands.
