Re: scopes vs. binoculars

This review of spotting scopes is 5 years old:
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds/gear/scopes/sc_review

A new review of scopes will be published in the next quarter's issue of
Living Bird. The above review was referred to in
http://php.democratandchronicle.com/blog/birds/?p=295, which also reviews
some high-end scopes. Both of the reviews seem to like the Bushnell
Spacemaster at around $300.

I have no experience, but it seems to me that if you were to consider the
Spacemaster it is only a small increment to get the Bushnell Legend with an
80mm objective lens. This will show a brighter view, but will weigh more.

One reason why people like the Bushnell is its long eye relief, which is
important if you wear glasses. The Legend models (both the 60mm and 80mm)
have a longer e.r. than the Spacemaster.

To repeat: I have not looked through any of these scopes. I don't own a
scope; I am thinking of buying a Bushnell, but have to do more research.

I own three binos: Papilios, Celestron Bak 4 Marine, and Roof Phase
Coated Elite by Wolfcamera, and they have similar quality image,
slightly better for the last one.

Now, in order to get similar quality in scopes, what kind of money/
models should I consider. I thought of these two, wildly different in
price, or perhaps something in between...

Thanks!

A couple of years ago my daughter and I went halves on a
top-of-the-line Swarovske scope and we love it. it opened up a whole
new world.

Thank you all. I may settle for the 300 buck scopes...
