We have a few feral cats in the neighborhood. Birds gather under a
squirrel-proof feeder that hangs from a tree at the edge of the woods to
peck at the spilled seed. Last year, a wild turkey would occasionally
join them in peace. Once a cat approached the group and the smaller
birds, instead of fleeing, positioned themselves so the turkey was
between them and the cat. Cat and turkey had a brief staring match, then
the cat left. I don't suppose that a turkey vulture is any less
formidable than a turkey.

Maybe I should buy a turkey!! One if the neighborhood cats has
recently discovered my bird feeders and thinks they are his own
hunting preserve!
