Okay, so every year geese and ducks land in the various courtyards
where I work and lay their eggs.
This year a duck laid three eggs in a small courtyard and all three
hatched. Of the three chicks only 1 survived and he already has
feathers similar to the mother. He almost looks like he could fly but
he is not as big as the mother. The grass is sparse and I tried
throwing a cracker into the courtyard which the duckling quickly ran
to and began eating. I know it's not a good idea to feed wild ducks
but I'm wondering if these ducks might need help. They have no way out
and no other source of food. They have survived this long so maybe I'm
wrong to interfere but all the geese are gone and these ducks are
still here. Can someone recommend some foods that are healthy for
ducks?
thanks
We,ve been having mallards visit our yard and feeling guilty about giving
them bread , started putting out cracked corn. They love it and it's
probably better for them. Agway sells 50 lbs for around 8.00. We use the
glazed saucers sold for under flowerpots....about a 6" for the corn and a
larger one for water next to it. It's important to give them water with it.
Birds love it too, ours is busy all day
