i live in houston suburbs and have a nest high in a willow tree. the nest
seems to be abandoned as we can see it well; since the tree hasn't leafed
out yet. it is medium sized about 50 ft in the air. don't think its
large
enough for red tails but i'm wondering what it is likely to be. squirrels
don't seem to live there. we have blue jays woodpeckers cardinals
blackbirds i know it is just pure speculation but what kind of birds
like nests like that? johnny in houston
Just keep an eye on it. Chances are something is going to move in. I have
trees that have mockingbirds in them one year, and grackles the next. There
are some species of birds that will take an old nest, fix it up, and use it,
and then there are species that build a new nest every season.
hth.
