Money is an issue. I will get a new tripod head after I learn more about
them. I am going to have to work with the tripod I have. I will look
into
that plate your mentioned.
Lee, before you spend any money, take some shots with the center column
all
the way down and see if you get better results.
Also, do NOT fully extend any of the leg sections. Leave a couple of
inches
retracted for more stability. Make sure that all screws and bolts are
firmly
tightened.

Good advice.

Was planning on doing a lot of research before spending any money. I have
three unsatisfactory tripod heads now so I think it time to study first
buy
later.

I took a couple of shots of the eclipse and will post them later. The
thumb
nails look fine. You all can tell me what you think.

Lee, what kind of settings did you use to photograph the eclipse? I
took some pictures but, they were un satisfactory.

I missed most of the Eclipse.

I think the photos came out pretty good but I am no judge of the technical
side of photography. You guys will have to judge if there are any shakes in
these. There should be since the camera was moving. They can be found at:

I usually set the camera for RAW and JPG ( for email). They haven't been
modified in any way.

Sorry, I do not know what settings. I set the ISO to auto with a maximum
sensitivity of 400 I just let the camera do its thing. I drag the photo
into
I View Media if I want that info.

Your pictures came out very well. I am finding the learning curve is
pretty steep on this camera. :)

Thanks, Rick.

There certainly is a lot to learn. I just sit there with the manual and check
out/try all the different menu's. I took night classes in Photography several
years ago but now can not remember the Sunny 16 rule anymore and I know that
would be a big help. Forgot to change the white balance on those moon shots.

RAW is nice because I can correct my screw ups and save the image.
