Re: Can someone identify this bird?

Hi Pete,

The lion looks pretty convincing to me. In Beltsville, we only have foxes ( http://dbolt.smugmug.com/gallery/1888026/1/95208616 ) and exotics ( http://dbolt.smugmug.com/Animals ) in our back yard. No lions!

Know anybody who is looking for a budgie? We have two that have been pretty regular for the past two weeks. The Monk Parakeet was only seen once.

Oh yeah - there it is.

I guess it must have escaped from the National Zoo. No wonder that bird
didn't hang around very long.

Pete,

BTW, do you have a lion in your back yard? It sure looks like one
behind and to the left of the hawk.

Greetings,

I hope one of you experts can help. This bird -- a hawk, perhaps? -
appeared in our back yard and we're very curious to identify it. We
live in suburban Maryland and have never seen one before. Here are two
photos.

Sorry the quality's not better; it's a very cloudy day and I couldn't
get very close.

I'd say it's about 18-20 inches from the tip of its tail to the top of
its head.

Many thanks!

Peter
