Another possibility, in addition to Jan's wonderful invention (that I use),
is what I'm going to try next: a 45" diameter plastic kiddie pool, with 13"
high walls, that ACE Hardware has available for $5.00. The area under my
thistle feeder is black, yes, and over a much wider area: about 4' x 5'.
Still, this pool oughta help. For $5, what the heck.

With all the doves that will congregate in it, picking up the dregs, I'll go
out there with a whistle and supervise. "HAWK IN THE AREA - EVERYBODY OUTTA
THE POOL!"
