I heard this bird singing today in my backyard and I didn't recognize the song. Grabbed the binoculars and went to investigate...... spotted a house wren on top of the utility pole singing it's heart out! First ever wren sighting for me. Then I got nervous because it swooped down onto the tree swallow house. Will a wren just break eggs or will it actually harm nestlings??==================================
Tammie,
Your swallows might be in trouble. HW's are known to puncture eggs and if the babies are small enough, evict or dispatch them as well. I enjoy the wrens, but they are fairly aggressive when it comes to competing for nest space.
