I looked at the Kodak Z650 and ended up with the Kodak DX7590 with 10xI have one and love it .... I use it on the 3Mega pixel setting .... got a 512 Memory card for it which allows me to take some 600 pictures with it before I run out of memory .... god for my 1-2 week vacations I take occasionally .... I should really try out the 5 Meg resolution setting and the 10X optical zoom for bird pics ....
optical zoom 5.0mp. The deciding features for me were the rounded grip on
the right end of the camera as I have carpal tunnel and holding onto the
rectangular pack like ones was hard to hold one and the Kodak was not too
much weight. I also like the feature that the screen that selects a mode of
photography with a little icon explains what that mode is used for. My
memory just isn't what it used to be. <G>
I am of the generation that used Instamatic cameras and then graduated to
35mm SLR so I am used to using a one eye viewfinder as opposed to looking at
a 1-2 inch screen to frame a shot and this one was very easy to switch back
and forth. It even remembers that I take pictures thru the eyepiece and
review thru the screen and chooses the correct one when I power on and then
press the review button. Oh - that's another thing...the on/off button was
clearly marked and easily found. Some of the cameras I picked up to look at
in various stores were difficult to turn on and I had to ask the sales
person where the on/off button was.
I use it in the automode a lot, but also sports mode for quick action and
the ease of one touch button for switching to macro for flower close-ups and
like as well as changing to distance shot by pressing the same button a
second time.
Everyone likes slightly different things for different reasons. I would
definitely not go less than 8x optical zoom and 5 mp though. I had a great
Olympus camera, but 3x zoom was useless for bird pics, and didn't like the
higher grade Olympus cameras for reasons above.

DH has a Nikon D70 and really likes it - but he was used to two handed
camera use and wanted a lens he could hold onto.
