Re: Hummer feeder-almost constant use

I have three feeders - all of them visible from my couch seat. There is
a 12 oz Perky Pet, a 48 oz Perky Pet and a 12 oz Hummzinger. The 12 oz
Perky Pet seems to be in almost constant use while the other two are
hardly used at all. All three are located close to the top of a window.
Because of the cold weather there is very little in the way of "natural"
sugar for them. I don't understand the reason for the preference.

Hey Mike,
I also have Perky Pet feeders (and a few no-name feeders).
The 16 oz. glass PP unit with the slightly raised yellow flowers
at the feeding ports is very popular with the hummers. I received
an 8 oz. PP Fountain feeder for Christmas (with flower feeding stations
and bee guards) and it remains to be seen if this feeder attracts
hummers.
BTW: I did a perky pet search on the internet and found an interesting
site with photos of various PP feeders. The most interesting photo
was of the 8 oz. Fountain feeder filled with red nectar. Adjacent to
the photo was this note:
"Note: We do not recommend adding any dye or food coloring as research
indicates that these may be harmful to the hummingbirds and it is not
necessary for attracting them".

I'll be watching also,
