Lucky you to see the Pileated woodpecker, I have tons of birds at my
feeder and bird bath but down here in San Antonio I think its to hot
for a bird like that. I do remember them well........ Richard L.
I live in East Texas, and there are quite a few of them here. In
particular, we sometimes see them in the experimental forest that is
associated with the university. I have occasionally (actually, only a few
times) seen them hanging on trees in my backyard. My biggest thrill was
when I looked out the window a couple of years ago and saw one perched on
the birdbath. He stayed for several minutes, and I was afraid to move to
get the camera for fear of scaring him off.
