first Townsend

I'm just beginning to get my balcony 'bird friendly' since my move last
summer. It only took about 20 minutes after hanging the hummer feeder for
the first Anna's to show up, I now have 8 that I have been able to see all
at one time. I'm going through about 3 oz of juice a day. The Bush Tits are
swarming the suet feeder, that took about 3 days for them to find it after
hanging this up. A few days later the BC chickadees and nuthatches arrived.
Then the SUBBs (I have got to find where my binocs and books have gone)
showed up. This all within about a week or ten days of the first feeder
being put out. I have a fountain in my birdbath so I'm sure this helped
bring them in.
Today I was watching the Anna's trying to use their swinging feeder in the
high winds and the bush tits covered the suet feeder like a swarm of bees
when I see a flash of YELLOW, really egg yolk bright yellow! I'd never seen
this bird before. Took me awhile to figure out what it was since I have yet
to find my bird ID books either. It was in with 5 chickadees pecking around
the balcony at dropped seed and suet crumbs. I finally IDed it as a
Townsend's Warbler. Looks just like the picture on Cornell Lab bird site.
Pretty exciting for me today, now I have a new bird for my list......when I
find it.
