Some birds may hate change, but the ones out my way are pretty
adaptable. I brought my cage-enclosed tube feeder up from the lower
forested area where it was hard for me to get to for refilling, to the
upper yard where I can access it more easily. The birds were there in
no time. The Stellers jays perch on the highest tip of the tallest
trees and survey the surrounding areas. The moment they spot any new
food source, down they swoop, raising all kinds of racket so the whole
neighborhood knows. They are a communication source for the smaller
songbirds.
I would suggest being patient. This is newly provided food, it will
take awhile for birds to discover it. Once they do, be prepared to
refill regularly. A five-star restaurant is busy most of the time.
The water suggestion is a good one. A heated birdbath would be greatly
appreciated by your avian friends.
