Big Sit

Yesterday was the big sit and a few of us took part for the first time. It was a wet windy day. We were set up under a picnic shelter beside a large shallow bay but the shelter it didn't do much to keep us dry. The rain was coming in almost horizontally at times.
there were very few birds around except C. Geese (large numbers), A. Black Ducks, Green-winged Teal, D.-c. Cormorants, a few Greater Yellowlegs and ( the highlight of the morning) three N. Pintails. There were lots of the big three of gulls but none of the more exciting species. Visibility was horrible. By noon we had enough and packed up and headed for the starlite diner for their all day breakfast. Definitely the best part of the morning!
On my way home I saw a bird on the road that had a white head. I was too far away to see detail but I stopped and walked back to try and get another look. I got a quick glimpse of the bird again in the alders. The head was white but appeared to have a few darker spots. I assume that this was a partially leucistic blackbird but didn't get a good enough view to be sure because I was looking at the odd head colour. The eyes were dark as was the strong medium length bill. The bird was of same build as a robin but a bit smaller. All of the body was dark except for the head.
