This year, the timing belt tensioner failed on my Honda
Civic. Then the alternator bearings froze. Four days ago, the plastic
(glass reinforced nylon) radiator developed a crack. A bad year for
mechanical problems. I hate this. The car's only 21 years old, and
now it's giving me problems!
But I keep thinking that even if I take it to a mechanic and pay full
price, it's cheaper than a couple car payments. And heck, I drive it
maybe 2000 miles per year.
Eventually the unibody will fail at the suspension and/or engine
mounting points, if you live in an area that uses deicing salts.
Probably so. That's how our 1978 Civic died, in 1991.
My 1978 Rabbit rusted out at the McPherson strut mounts in 1993.
