Of course, 9.7% unemployment is really closer to *17* percent if you
count people who have given up looking for work, but that's just
plain distasteful to report. (Critics were quick to point out that 5
or 6% a few years ago didn't take into account all sorts of things,
but that was to fit a template.)
..., after which you will hear for
decades what a great president he was, just like Kennedy and
Clinton.
They both governed as moderates (by ideology for Kennedy and
necessity for Clinton); ain't nuthin' moderate about Obama.
(Remember, he's only 8 months in; much more will be revealed.)
If Obame really were a radical, it would be easier to get rid of him.
But he would never have been elected; your system will not give the
loose cannon on deck a chance;

"Our system" depends on a nominally honest (albeit biased) media.  So-called
journalism absolutely died in the last 3-4 years, and the dirt was thrown on
top in 2008.  The media not only covered and carried the water for Obama, it
actively and overtly worked to destroy his opponents and detractors.
Nothing terribly new about that, of course, but it was blatant and
unrelenting this time around and could not be disguised, minimized or
sugar-coated.

Ross Perot was the nearest thing and,
fahcryingoutloud, he was a business mogul. Obama's another centrist

Centrist???  As I said, more will be revealed.  Many of his czars and
cabinent members are outright nutjobs, calling for everything from animal
legal rights to forced abortions/sterilizations to banning hunting.  Van
Jones was /mainstream/ compared to some of these wackos.  Obama's
Socialist/Marxist leanings are more and more apparent; question is how long
before even the media can't hide 'em and people have seen enough.

and, if he does nothing and thereby offends no-one, will go down as a
great president because that is what your media wants him to be. (It
will be subtly communicated that it is unacceptable to say anything
else about the first black president on pain of being labelled a
racist.) This isn't about substance, Bill, but about appearances -- in
fact, it isn't even about real-time appearances but about *what can be
made to appear retroactively*.

No argument there.  My hope is that people will see what's happening to
their jobs, savings, expenses and freedoms, and no amount of media fuzz will
obscure it.

I wish it were different, but I see him eclipsing Jimmy Carter as
the worst and least effective president ever.
That will be an achievement already! Carter gave a whole new depth to
the word "incompetent".
High unemployment, run-away inflation
(especially for energy and food), generation-crushing debt, onerous
tax rates, ridiculous deficits, fraud, thug tactics and
corruption...he's got it /all/ going on. (Won't even get into
national security and foreign policy.)
That will make zero difference to his reputation in the longer term. I
repeat, this isn't about substance but about appearances, about
inspiration, about appearing to be above it all, regardless of the
reality. Read carefully Chalo's post to me about what a fine-looking
fellow Obama is -- Chalo is making a prophecy, and you can bet your
house on it.

It's no longer about the economy, stupid [said in a Bill Clinton
voice]. The rules have undergone a quantum shift. The only question is
for how long before normal service is resumed.

You started this by saying he'll be in office for two terms.  I sincerely
doubt it now, because his lack of experience and real-world know-how
(especially of how to GOVERN) are already glaring.  (I also think he's
SEVERELY over-exposing himself, and there will be an "Obama Burn-out
Backlash" before long.  Eye-rolling is nigh.)

In four years we'll know whether my cool, detached perspective or your
closer involvement delivers the greater prophetic power. I'll
straightaway give you a point of doubt though: overexposure is
difficult to undo. -- AJ
