Who ya gonna believe, Al Gore or your own lying eyes?
I gave you credit for being able to distinguish between "local
weather" and "global climate change", unlike Snorti. I guess my faith
was misplaced.
For the last many years, every heat wave, rainy spell and dry streak have been
declared a symptom of global warming. Now we have record colds across the
continent * and it's time to "distinguish between "local weather" and "global
climate change"."
*Hell, across the northern hemisphere, snow on a Mediterranean beach!!! and
other unlikely climes and at best it becomes "climate change" instead of global
warming.
I don't care whether some other people have, or have not, attributed
their local weather changes to global climate change. Some of those
changes may be due to it, some may just be yearly weather patterns.
What people have said in the past is irrelevant. What matters is what
is happening with the climate on a factual basis.
The key point *is* that you don't determine the change to the global
climate by looking at weather in the Northern US in Summer 2009. It's
measured by other factors. Note that even the article in question has
a clear disclaimer by the author that it is not making any inferences
about global climate.
Hopefully that clears it up for you.- Hide quoted text -
We've been having localized global warming for the last few days --
and for the next few. Here's the story from the Oregonian:
"Heat wave likely to worsen today and tomorrow
by The Oregonian

There's really no other way to say it: Southwest Washington and
Northwestern Oregon are in the maw of an historic heat wave.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning
yesterday that remains in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday -- meaning
temperatures are topping 100 degrees with little relief even when the
sun sets. Add smog and humidity and we have a cocktail of dangerous
weather for the record books. Monday evening, temperatures hit 103
degrees at Portland International Airport, breaking the record of 102
set in 1958.
And today's forecast calls for sun, a high of 104 degrees and the
barest hint of breeze. Come nightfall, it'll still feel clammy, with
lows around 71.
On Wednesday, a carbon copy, only one or two degrees hotter until
evening, when the temperature is finally forecast to drop to about 65
degrees. Come Thursday, the heat is expected to dip to 100, then stay
in the 90s through the weekend. "
I don't know how people from Arizon and other desert climates handle
riding in high heat -- I was coming home from work yesterday, and my
bike frame was physically hot. Maybe I should use that as an excuse
for buying a CF frame, which probably is a better insulator than
aluninum.
You know how the sun on a hot day can heat up pavement enough to burn
your bare feet? Well yesterday (the Wednesday referenced above), what
I presume must be metal plates of some kind inside my Shimano sandals
were getting so hot that they became uncomfortable to the touch
against my toes.
