Of course they do, but my main point was, that they don't drop FEA
analysis as "not relevant" when testing crash worthiness.
FEA is just another tool, it has it limitations, and I am sure that
the author of the cited paper is very well aware of the difficulties
of FEA helmet analysis.
I find it foolish just to dismiss FEA analysis as a useful tool with
just general claims that they are merely simulations.

Why, then, should we give credence to an FEA study whose details we
don't even know, when the real-world physical tests

Didn't just suggest that I should go down my local library?

- the accumulated
crash data from, say, the entire bicycling population of New Zealand -
shows that helmets had no beneficial effect?

Are you talking about the Scuffham 1997 study? That one only covers
selected public hospitals, not the entire population. Curnow AFAIK,
hasn't conducted any field research himself, and only seem strong in
his claim that mandatory helmet laws doesn't have the desired effect,
something that doesn't contradict that helmet usage works in case of
accidents.
In another post I cited Berg, 2007; That study is an entire population
study, not just selected public hospitals. Berg, 2007 concludes that
helmet usage do in fact work.
