Re: Separating a frameset

Pics are up. Sergio. The ads include popups; you may be able to see
your photos by simply closing the popups one by one. That, using
Safari (the Mac browser), is how I found your photographs. The second
pic in the list has the ad inside the frame -- try scrolling to the
right. == Andre Jute

Care to see pictures?

Here we go.
I tried to register and have the pictures available for you.
No way:

I asked a friend to do it for me. He put them up and gave me these
links:

Ironically, I can't link to them (get ads, again), but I was assured
that they should work for you.
So, though I can't refer to  each one picture separately I take it
that you see them all right.

Forword.
Not all ALAN joints are equal.

I was told that Al-Al can be plainly glued or screwed in; this one
being Ti-Al had to be glued only.
Impossible to tell by looking from the outside which piece goes into
which other piece.
Michele had guessed that the Ti tube would go inside the Al joint, but
he was wrong. To see why the pegs that had already been implanted did
not work I had to disassemble the joint.

The pictures show you how I did it, essentially by pulling with a
tightner of the type we use for cloths lines.
Scorching with a torch was essential, since heat softens the (dry)
glue.

I separated the joint about 9mm and carefully stopped at that. Had I
extracted the joint completely I would have never been able to put it
back in place. Plus, as I was pulling, also the steerer tube, which
goes all the way down into the joint, somehow managed to start
exracting itself.
At that point I could clearly see that the Al was going inside the Ti
tube!

I applied epoxy and, with a suitably modified woodworker clamp, I
tried to press everything back into place.
No way! Too much resistence in there.
So, even after the applied epoxy had set, I make recourse to the flame
torch  again.
The heat softened the preexistent glue as well as the epoxy I had
applied and the damned thing slode into place again, like a jewel.
Fially, I drilled a 4mm hole horizontally to implent an elastic
spline.

Yesterday I rode the bicycle and delivered to Michele's: it worked
beautifully well.
I swapped pedals and rode back home on my own racer that I had parked
there.

As simple as that, with a lot of personal satisfaction and
gratification.
