The DVD you cite, is funded by the sugar
industry, did you know that? The sugar
barons are some of the unscrupulous
industries on the planet. Why do you
think Hawaii was made US territory, why
do you think there is an embargo against
Cuba? The real reason, not the phony
one. These folks play to win.
I cannot find any evidence that sugar industry actually funded that
documentary. If you have any links - please provide them. Personally
I doubt if that is some sort of clandestine war between sugar
companies
and corporations makin[g] artificial sweeteners.
In 1977 I spent a summer in Washington D.C. interning with the civil service [1] (no Lewinsky jokes, please). As part of the job, (!) we were sent on a one-day tour of the congress, and spent time in the galleries.
When we viewed the Senate, the issue was saccharin regulation. One senator said that if there was any chance, however small, that saccharin causes cancer, it should be banned. He was from Hawaii, surprise, surprise.
(Someone else said "what about tobacco" at which point a senator from South Carolina arose and sternly reminded the body that the issue was saccharin, not tobacco.)
Even in my addled youth, I could see what was going on.
[1] The internship taught me that I didn't want to work for the government.
