The point is, given that the strain is independent of spoke tension in
the elastic regime, I thought Clare was probably talking about flexing
and that perhaps you hadn't considered that interpretation.

What is the definition of strain?

As you know perfectly well I meant the cyclic strain. The change in
strain depends on the change in tension, not on the absolute tension,
provided the tension remains in the "elastic regime".
