I can't speak for Trek on this particular issue... well, actually, I can. If
they benefit from these exchages, it's indirectly, because they don't read
usenet posts. At the corporate level, this is seen as a time-consuming
usually-thankless task that burns out employees. But for me, it's a
challenge to see how well I can interact with all manner of people. The
cross-section here is amazing, and it's a big help in understanding the
different ways people might be viewing what we say & do when they come into
the shop. So yes, I can rationalize that what I do here is far from
altruistic. It gives me a better understanding of how the world works (and,
sometimes, how it doesn't!).
