I am one of those people because I remember those cheap units from my childhood. Tell me how the newer ones are better. What I mean is, how can they be measurably better, seeing that they operate on the same principle as the old clunky ones?
For comparison: A 2005 Toyota Camry operates on the same principle as a Ford Model T.
A 2005 Apple Powerbook operates on the same principle as a Commodore Vic-20.
.... and so on.
The new generators typically have much lower drag, last much, much longer, have better mounting hardware, don't use the frame as a ground, come with halogen bulbs (not vacuum), and have better headlamp optics.
