Ehh? Because Mario's steady state output had a lower power-to-weight
ratio than the climbers.

On the flat maximum speed is sort of power-to-winddrag ratio. On the
climbs it's power-to-weight ratios. Also you have to use steady state
power output and not the momentary output that sprinters use which can
only be held for mere seconds.

Perhaps this is factored into power to weight ratio considerations, but
the dead spots in the power stroke are accentuated as the hill becomes
steeper, meaning that your speed variance for each 1/2 pedal revolution
