Your little finger is a lot more important in terms of overall hand

than one might think. A good example of that is opening a jar.

I was amazed to find out how much you use the little finger when I
blew mine out last year. And while wearing the splint I met so many
people who have damaged little fingers. One woman told me that she
regretted never rehabbing hers properly because it effected her
ability to grip a dog leash.

You don't think about it until you can't use it like you're used to. I broke the
fourth metacarpal but had the outer three fingers taped together in a cast. The cast
was on too long and the doctor didn't schedule me for PT until almost a month after
the cast came off. The physical therapist told me that I should have been in to see
her the next day. So my little finger problems are a side effect of having broken the
other finger - that is the most surprising thing about it to me.
