Dang, that sure puts things in perspective! Best wishes for your brother, and be thankful for the modern age that keeps Darwin at bay for things like that!

Interesting that you bring it up actually. I don't recall if I mentioned it in my missives, but I did feel a bit guilty in the pre-op area, seeing people going in for stuff far more serious, and often life-threatening, than my hand. No way around it, if my hand wasn't operated on, I'd live, and I'd likely have some changes in how I ride, but I'd adapt.

Again, best wishes for a speedy recovery for your brother.

Actually, I think you DID mention it, and I had no intention to upstage you. He's doing better, though he had a stormy course--a postop bleed that required 6 or 7 units of blood, then he needed to be re-opened the next day. Considering all that, he looks damn good a 9 days later. He'd just blown out his mitral valve. Picked up incidentally when he had a checkup. He was feeling fine--in fact we were riding in the park after he knew he was having surgery, we hit the hill and he rode away from me.
On the plus side, his pre-op coronary angiogram showed he had "the coronary arteries of a 25 year old". I told him he probably should give them back.
