Italian Riccardo Riccò confessed to taking EPO to the Italian Olympic
Committee (CONI) prosecutor, Ettore Torri on Wednesday. Riccò tested
positive for the drug following stage four of the Tour de France,
forcing his team to pull its entire squad from the race.
Riccò has withdrawn his request to have a counter-analysis done on the
B-sample, but said that the testing procedure needed some work. "Of
the 10 controls taken, only two were positive. In theory all the tests
should have been positive, therefore the method needs to be checked,"
he said.
Doesn't the English translation have the cool parts where he says that:
1) He was 100% clean during the Giro
2) Nobody helped him. He just found out about the stuff and ordered it
on the Internet.
3) He thinks that his admission is a nice gesture
4) but he was not looking for clemency.
He also said that what blessed him most in all this business was the
hypocrisy of the cycling world. Hypocrisy?! What is he talking about?
Haven't we entered the era of 'new cycling', clean, honest and frank (except
a few rotten apples of course)?
Benjo
As opposed to the 'old cycling', dirty, dishonest Franck era.
