FYI: a New Yorker article from 2001 about drugs in competitive sports I
found interesting and timely:
http://www.gladwell.com/2001/2001_08_10_a_drug.htm
One of the most interesting things in this article is the mention of
Thyroxine. The hormone produced by, what's that? The thyroid gland.
Hey wait, did we not just learn that Floyd has a thyroid problem and
takes thyroxine?:
"thyroxine, the synthetic thyroid hormone used by athletes to speed the
metabolism and keep people lean."
Wake up folks.
Here's a clue - this is used by people who have had their thyroids destroyed
by various diseases and treatments for other diseases. One of the side
effects of this is thinning bones to the point where walking can break your
bones. My ex-wife broke BOTH her ankles walking down the stairs one at a
time.
This occurs very rapidly in people using more thyroid hormone than their
bodies can use and is the reason why these doses have to be carefully
controlled.
Has Floyd had his thyroid irradiated, or does he suffer hypoactive? I
just thought it a bit odd on Larry King how Floyd made mention of the
thyroid. As if he was trying to plant seeds for excuses that were
still to come.
