Al Trautwig - well, it's tough to find anything nice to say about him.
He's a professional announcer, which none of the others are in the
generic, American sense of the word, but he's a typical arrogant
American, acting like he knows much more than he does, and he's made me
far prefer the live coverage with Phil and Paul to the "enhanced"
prime-time coverage. Al is certainly a second-tier American announcer
at that. Do they really think they reach more of an audience by using
him than they would without him?

What do we have to do in order to get OLN to ditch him or at least get
him to defer to those with expertise sitting around him?

You'd be asking OLN to ditch the man who has the "network" broadcasting
style that is crucial to maintaining eyeballs in the US market. OLN can
not make a buck based solelyon the tastes of RBR people

there are the people we call 'personalities'.No talent but they either
look good or are just famous for being famous, and are vapidly familiar.

On Canal evasoin, the two announcers are total idiots- actually only one
of them is really bad, but they also have these idiotic spots where they
interview this boring woman about tourist spots in france. This would be
during the time spot where Phil and Paul chat. Only it's these boring,
middle aged drips taking up 15 minutes of air time.

Still,we get about 3 hours of live coverage. The evening version is the
same so i just set the timer so i don't have to listen to the inane patter.

Trautwig is valuable because he knows how to cut through all of crap
regarding the stuff that 95% of the viewing public does not care about.
When Sherwin and Ligget start drifting into talk about how it feels to
bonk in hot weather (things WE can all relate to), Trautwig steers them
back to the basics for the audience: Who will succeed Lance? Who can
win this thing? Etc. We might all like Bobke, but most non-racing
people probably think his broadcasting skills are right up there with
Deion Sanders and OJ Simpson.
