I can see how much you've hunted before. And of course those masters of the
art - Time magazine.

You can't see dick.

I'm one on on the VP. I've never shot anyone when I've hunted. Of course, I
wait until AFTER I've finished shooting before getting likkered up. Maybe
that makes a difference?

Safety experts say shooter carries responsibility-
When it comes to hunter safety, political spin doesn't fly. Neither do
arguments that blame the victim in Vice President Dick Cheney's ill-fated
quail hunt Saturday in Texas, said Mike Streeter, hunter education
coordinator for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
"Any attempt by whomever to take the blame off the shooter and put it on the
victim is wrong," said Mike Streeter, hunter education coordinator for the
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Point blank: The guy who pulled the
trigger was the vice president.
News accounts of the incident quoted the property owner saying the attorney
got shot because he put himself in Cheney's line of fire without signaling
or announcing himself. That makes gun safety more complicated than
necessary, Streeter said.
"The principle is to be sure of your target and what's beyond it," he said.
"That's the principle that apparently wasn't followed."

A gun safety instructor at the Hamilton Rod and Gun Club, Mike Jennings
wastes no time in drawing a bead on Cheney.
"It brings home a point I've been pushing for 30 years - more gun education
is needed. It should not have happened. It's unforgivable that it did
happen. ... I instill in all my students very strongly that you do not touch
that trigger or point that gun in the direction of another person. If you
do, you're a fool. ... Mr. Cheney should have known better. Shame on him."

Expert Says Cheney May Have Had 'Target Fixation'
Rod Slings, a hunting safety officer with the Iowa Department of Natural
Resources, said it is possible that Vice President Dick Cheney was just too
focused on bagging a bird when he accidentally shot a hunting companion on a
south Texas ranch.
Slings calls it "target fixation." He said it happens when a hunter fixates
directly on a target enough that everything else becomes blurry.
Slings is also on the board of directors for the International Hunter
Education Association

Vice President Dick Cheney should go back to school.-
Several area hunters think Cheney could use a hunter-safety education
refresher course after a bizarre incident Saturday in which the vice
president shot one of his hunting partners on a quail hunt." -

Cheney violated key hunting rule
A look around could have spared pal- Vice President Dick Cheney violated a
basic commandment of hunting safety when he wounded a man during a weekend
quail hunt: Always be sure the background is clear before pulling the
trigger"-.

Safety tips for Cheney
By AP
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney apparently broke the No. 1
rule of hunting: Be sure of what you're shooting at.

THE PROBLEM: VP seemed not to know basic safety rule
If Vice President Dick Cheney had followed the protocols taught 12-year-olds
in hunter education programs, he never would have shot his pal last weekend
while quail hunting, according to hunting safety experts.

etc, etc etc.

Trying to defend this is like defending getting drunk and driving your
car through a group of school kids. There is NO excuse, as you've
linked to. I just wish they'd really get tough on stupid, and criminal
shit with guns. Cheney should have every weapon he owns taken and his
right to own taken away for life.
